RefWorks is a bibliographic management service that permits users to create a database of references from search results in online research databases. References can then be used in writing papers. In-text citations and bibliographies are automatically formatted with the click of a button in a citation style of your choosing. RefWorks is available to current Wittenberg faculty, staff and students.

If you plan to set up a new account or access an existing account from an off-campus location, call the reference desk for the Group Code at 937-327-7511.

Importing and Exporting Instructions

The methods for getting references from a databases into RefWorks vary from one databases to another. Here are detailed instructions for some common databases.

  • EBSCO Databases (Academic Search Complete and others)
  • EZRA Library Catalog
  • OhioLINK Catalog
  • If you do not see a database vendor listed here, you may find additional database instructions on the Xavier University library web page.

    Installing & Using Write n' Cite

    Write n' Cite is a plug-in for Microsoft Word that allows you to create footnotes, endnotes, bibliographies and other references from your RefWorks database in papers written with MS Word. For more, please see our guide to Installing & Using Write n' Cite. Write n' Cite is available for both Windows and Macintosh versions of MS Word. Write 'n Cite III, which is compatible with Windows Vista and Word 2007, is currently available in Beta Version.
