Statistics Bureau, Japanese Ministry of Public Management, Home Affairs, Posts,
and Tecommunications.  Includes statistics on everything from population, labor

  and family income, to a survey on time use and leisure activities.

Bibliography of Asian Studies - Covers 1971 to date.  No full text. 
Paper editions, kept on the index shelves, go back to 1941. 

Academic Search Premier - This is probably our best  source for articles on current events.  Covers 1986 to date. Some full text. 
MasterFile Premier - Indexes and provides some full text for popular U.S. magazines.

JSTOR - 100% full text database of journal back files.
Lexis-Nexis- Extensive, multifaceted database, almost completely full text.

Historical Abstracts - Covers world history excluding the United States and Canada.
New York Times - Historical - Searchable full text of the New York Times back to
its
beginning in 1851 up through 2001.
Tokio Times Index (Jan 1877 - Jun 1880) - Index to Tokio Times for issues
    held on microfilm at Wittenberg.

Art Abstracts

Business Source Complete -  Includes lots of full text of articles on management
and business.

Contemporary Women's Issues - Almost all full text. Covers 1988  through
June 2006

Women's Studies International -
Indexes multidisciplinary scholarship in
feminist research. Some full text.

Digital Dissertations - Disseration Abstracts; index, some abstracts, and some
preview pages - 1861 to present. 
 
Education Research Complete - Index, abstracts, and lots of full text for professional
educators.

EconLit- Basic index to journal articles on economics
Ethnic NewsWatch - "Full text of ethnic, minority and native periodicals.

International Political Science Abstracts - Lots of full text.
Worldwide Political Science Abstracts    - 1975 through June 2006 - A basic index for
journal articles in political science, international relations, law, and public administration/policy.

MLA Bibliography - Gives access to articles about language and literature.  
Religion Index - 1949 to date
SocINDEX Complete - Basic index for sociology, with a lot of full text.
Wilson indexes (Wilson Web) - Includes Social Sciences Index, Humanities Index, & General Science Index, plus indexes for art and library science..    Covers 1983 or-4 to date, with some full text since 1996.
World Development Indicators - From the World Bank, this database provides comparative economic statistics from around the world.

World News Connection - Was FBIS: Foreign Broadcast Information Service. Completely full text.
Worldwide Political Science Abstracts    - 1975 through June 2006 - A basic index for
journal articles in political science, international relations, law, and public administration/policy.
 No full text.

People's Daily Online - Major Chinese newspaper in English.  Witt also subscribes to the
Chinese-language, paper version.
Sina - Good source for Chinese news.
Asahi Shimbun - Major Japanese newspaper.
Korea Times - Newspaper.
News and Newspapers Online - Provides links to newspapers from all over the world.

Note: Locating journals can be tricky, difficult, and generally exasperating.  If you run into trouble, a reference librarian will be glad to assist you.

 Google Scholar -
Provides references to scholarly articles.  Finding the actual article may be difficult and costly.  Also, journal coverage is incomplete and not current. Subscription databases are almost always better.
